Tips for coloring landscapes

  • Color the sky first, then work from the farthest objects to the nearest.
  • Make distant hills and trees paler and bluer, and the foreground richer, to create depth.
  • Choose where the light comes from and keep shadows on the opposite side of every shape.
  • Printing: choose "Fit to page" in the print dialog. Heavier paper (120 gsm or 32 lb and up) stops markers bleeding through.
